What is Chef Mate?

Chef Mate is a cooking companion app that helps you save recipes from anywhere, plan your meals, build grocery lists, and cook hands-free with step-by-step Cook Mode.

Is Chef Mate free to use?

Chef Mate is free to download and use. Premium features may be added in the future, but everything is free today.

What platforms is Chef Mate available on?

Chef Mate is available on iOS, Android, macOS, Linux, and Windows, and stays in sync across all of them.

Account

How do I create an account?

Download Chef Mate from the App Store or Google Play and follow the on-screen sign-up instructions.

How do I delete my account?

You can delete your account from any of the desktop, Android, or iOS apps:

Go to Settings
Select Manage Profile
Click Delete Profile
Confirm the deletion when prompted

Once confirmed, your account and all associated data will be permanently removed.

Features

How do I save a recipe from the web?

Found a recipe while browsing in Safari, Chrome, or another app? Tap the share button and choose Chef Mate — the recipe's photo, ingredients, and steps come straight into your collection, no copying and pasting. Prefer to stay in the app? Open the built-in browser from the bottom navigation to search the web, then tap Download on any recipe you find.

Can I save my favorite recipes?

Yes — tap the heart icon on any recipe to mark it as a favorite.

Can I organize my recipes into collections?

Yes — group recipes into recipe books, such as weeknight dinners, holiday baking, or family favorites. Invite collaborators to a recipe book so everyone can add to and cook from the same collection.

Yes — every recipe has a shareable link. Anyone can open it in a browser to view the ingredients and directions, with an option to save it straight into their own Chef Mate account.

How do I add a recipe's ingredients to my grocery list?

Open the recipe and tap the cart icon in the toolbar to send its ingredients straight to a grocery list. Chef Mate combines duplicates so you never buy the same thing twice.

Yes — you can keep more than one grocery list and share any of them with family or roommates. Everyone's changes stay in sync as you shop.

How do I plan my meals for the week?

Open a recipe and tap the calendar icon in the toolbar to drop it onto any day. Switch between Day, Week, and Month views from the Meal Plan tab to see your whole schedule.

What is Cook Mode?

Cook Mode is a distraction-free, step-by-step view for when you're ready to cook. Tap Start Cooking from a recipe's toolbar — the text stays large and your screen won't dim, so you can keep both hands on the food.

Does Chef Mate have an AI assistant?

Yes — tap the AI Chat icon to ask for recipe ideas, ingredient substitutions, or cooking tips. You can turn any answer into a new saved recipe with one tap.

Deleting Data

How do I delete a recipe?

Open the recipe you want to remove, tap the menu icon (three dots), and select Delete Recipe. Confirm the deletion when prompted. This will remove the recipe from your saved collection but will not affect your account or other data.

How do I delete grocery items?

Navigate to your Grocery List, swipe left on the item you want to remove, and tap Delete. To clear your entire grocery list, tap the menu icon at the top of the list and select Clear All Items.

How do I delete meal planning items?

Go to your Meal Plan, tap the meal you want to remove, and select Remove from Plan. To clear an entire day or week, tap the menu icon and select Clear Day or Clear Week.

How do I leave or delete a recipe book?

Open the recipe book from the recipe book picker and tap the menu icon. Choose Leave if you're a collaborator, or Delete if you own it, and confirm when prompted. Recipes already saved to your own collection are not affected.

Will deleting data affect my account?

No — deleting recipes, grocery items, meal plan entries, or a recipe book only removes that specific data. Your account, profile, and all other saved content remain intact.
